Lubricating the Seatpost
The seatpost must be sufficiently lubricated when you mount it in the frame to avoid sticking and squeaking.
Ideally you need mounting paste for this procedure. Mounting paste increases the friction of the parts to be mounted. Special pastes exist for aluminium and carbon. Grease can be used on your old metal frame bike.
- Loosen the seatpost bolt and remove the seatpost.
- Clean the seatpost: remove old grease or paste. Also clean the inside of the frame tube.
- Apply a thin layer of mounting paste to the seatpost.
- Insert the seatpost in the frame tube.
- Fasten the seatpost bolt.
The seatpost is now sufficiently lubricated and should no longer squeak. You will be able to adjust and remove it easily in the future. Your seatpost will no longer squeak when you ride over bumps.
