Creating the Website Sections and Pages
Start by creating the Dita topic files for your website sections and sub-sections (web pages). You'll need to have these files, even if they are empty, to set up the ditamap which is the overview of all your web pages (sitemap).
- Choose from one of the four topic types:
- topic
- concept
- task
- reference
A website may have lots of concept and reference information. Tasks may be important on more technical websites.
- Fill in a unique id at the top level of the topic.
- Fill in a value for the xml:lang attribute, e.g. en-gb for UK English.
Note: This is important for translation: the value will be fr-fr for French. The Open Toolkit pulls several language strings based on this attribute.
- Type the page title
. You can write the rest of the topic later.
- Save the topic with a meaningful name.
You now have one topic which can be referenced in your ditamap. Repeat this procedure for all the sections and sub-sections (web pages) in your sitemap.
