Adjusting the derailleur guide pulley
The top guide pulley of a rear derailleur has an optimum distance to the cassette sprockets. Most derailleurs have a so-called B-tension adjustment screw for this adjustment.
You need a small screwdriver to perform this procedure. The rear derailleur should be aligned.
- Shift the chain onto the smallest chainring and the largest rear sprocket.
- Turn the B-tension adjustment screw so the guide pulley is about 1 cm under the largest sprocket. The closer the better.
- Shift to the smallest rear sprocket and check that the guide pulley does not touch the sprocket. If it does, turn the B-tension adjustment screw to increase the distance.
