Adjusting the derailleur guide pulley

The top guide pulley of a rear derailleur has an optimum distance to the cassette sprockets. Most derailleurs have a so-called B-tension adjustment screw for this adjustment.

You need a small screwdriver to perform this procedure. The rear derailleur should be aligned.

  1. Shift the chain onto the smallest chainring and the largest rear sprocket.
  2. Turn the B-tension adjustment screw so the guide pulley is about 1 cm under the largest sprocket. The closer the better.
  3. Shift to the smallest rear sprocket and check that the guide pulley does not touch the sprocket. If it does, turn the B-tension adjustment screw to increase the distance.
